This Rembrandt pastel set puts 60 skin tones and warm colours within reach, ideal for portrait drawings. The luxury wooden box keeps your pastels organised and safely stored between sessions.
When do you choose this product?
When do you need a portrait-specific pastel set?
These Royal Talens Rembrandt soft pastels have been specially composed for portrait work. You choose this portrait selection when you want to reproduce skin tones, hair and facial features faithfully. The 60 full pastels contain the colours you use most when drawing portraits, so you don't have to search for the right shade for every skin tone.
Why 60 full pastels instead of smaller sets?
With 60 full pastels you have enough material for several large portrait projects. Full pastels give you more control over pressure and allow both broad areas and fine details. You can use the side for large surfaces such as backgrounds, and the tip for details around the eyes and mouth.
What does soft quality mean for your drawing technique?
Soft pastels leave more pigment on your paper than hard varieties, giving you more intense colours. They are easier to blend and blur, which is essential for realistic skin tones and soft transitions. The drawback is that they wear down faster, but for portrait work the rich colour rendering is more important than economy.
Practical storage tip for optimal use
The supplied wooden box, measuring 380 x 250 x 70 mm, keeps your pastels organised and protects them from breaking. Store the box horizontally and always close it tightly after use. This keeps the pastels clean and lets you quickly find the right colour while drawing. The solid wooden casing also makes this set suitable for transport to drawing locations.
