Explore your creativity with this Van Gogh watercolour set from Royal Talens, including 12 half pans in assorted colours, a brush and a mixing palette. The clear, transparent colours give you rich coverage straight away — ideal for both beginners and advanced watercolourists.
When do you choose this product?
What does this watercolour set do?
Watercolour paint is worked with water, allowing you to apply transparent layers of colour to paper that let light through and create smooth gradations. This Royal Talens set is designed as a basic set for anyone who wants to start watercolour painting, or a complete starter kit with a selected range of colours. Everything you need to get started straight away is packed together in one box.
Why this set with 12 colours?
The set contains 12 half pans in a curated colour selection that together form a broad palette: from Chinese white and permanent yellow to ultramarine deep, viridian and Payne's grey. Because the colours have been carefully chosen, you can achieve a large part of the colour spectrum through mixing without having to purchase a more extensive set straight away. The pans sit in a sturdy plastic box that you can also use as a palette.
Transparency and colour strength as the key feature
The Van Gogh line from Royal Talens is known for brilliant, transparent colours with high colour strength. This means the paint covers well over light layers and stays vibrant after drying, which matters in watercolour work because you are working with watery layers. It is fair to say that Van Gogh is an entry- to mid-level line within the Royal Talens range, which makes this set suitable for beginners and hobbyists.
Practical tip for use
The set includes a synthetic brush, size 6, and a mixing dish, so you can start without any extra purchases. Use the plastic box itself as a storage solution for the pans between sessions. For best results, combine this paint with watercolour paper of sufficient weight to absorb water without buckling.
