What is this polystyrene ball and when do you need it?

A polystyrene ball is a versatile base material for craft projects. You use it when you need a round, three-dimensional shape as a starting point for decorations, school projects or seasonal ornaments. Think of making planets, Christmas baubles or decorative objects for the home.

Why choose this XL size?

With a diameter of 120 mm, this is a substantial ball that stands out clearly as the centrepiece of a decoration or as part of a larger craft project. This size gives you enough working surface to add details, without the ball becoming unwieldy. For smaller details or background elements, a ball with a smaller diameter would be a better choice.

Honest about the material: polystyrene as a craft base

The ball is made of polystyrene, also known as styrofoam or Styrofoam, and is intended for craft use. The material is lightweight and holds its shape, which means the ball retains its round form while you work on it. Bear in mind that not all paints and glues are suitable for polystyrene: solvent-based products can damage the material, so preferably use water-based paint or acrylic paint.

Practical tip: working and finishing

The ball has a smooth surface and is supplied in one piece, not split into two halves. That makes it immediately usable as a fully round shape. You can paint it, cover it with paper, fabric or other materials, or decorate it further with decorative elements. If you like, insert a cocktail stick or wire through the centre to hold the ball easily while painting or to hang it up once finished.
