What does this ink cartridge do?

An ink cartridge supplies the ink your printer needs to print documents and photos. The CLI-581XL is the yellow cartridge from Canon's CLI-581 series and provides the yellow colour component in your prints. Without a working yellow cartridge, colours in photos and coloured documents can look incorrect or incomplete.

When should you choose the XL version?

The XL designation stands for High Capacity: this cartridge contains 8.3 ml of ink, more than the standard version. That makes it a good choice if you print regularly and in larger quantities, as you won't need to order or replace a new cartridge as often. You save time and your workflow is interrupted less often.

Honest about the contents

With 8.3 ml of ink, this XL cartridge offers a greater capacity than the standard CLI-581, but it's worth knowing that the actual yield depends on what you print. Photos and colourful documents use considerably more yellow ink than text with a small colour accent. If you mainly use the printer for photos, you'll find the cartridge runs out faster than it would with mixed use.

Compatibility: check your printer model

This cartridge is only suitable for specific Canon Pixma models. The supported series are the Pixma TS 6100, TS 8100 and TS 9100, and the Pixma TR 7500 and TR 8500. So always check the exact model number of your printer before ordering. The Canon reference number for this cartridge is 2051C001, which you can use to confirm your purchase via the packaging or the Canon website.
