What does this ink cartridge do?

The Canon CLI-581XL is a black ink cartridge that you use to print text and images on a compatible Canon Pixma printer. This cartridge is specifically intended for home use and small office environments where printing is done regularly, and it supplies black ink for sharp, legible printouts.

When should you choose the XL variant?

The XL version contains 8.3 ml of ink, which is more than the standard version of the same cartridge. This makes it a sensible choice if you print regularly and don't want to order a new cartridge every time. You save on how often you need to replace it, which is handy if you use the printer intensively.

Compatibility: check your printer series

This cartridge works only in specific Canon Pixma models. For the TS series, this means the 6100, 8100 and 9100. Within the TR series, the 7500 and 8500 are compatible. Check the exact model number of your printer before purchasing, as not all Pixma printers accept the CLI-581XL. You can usually find the model number on a sticker on the underside or side of your printer.

Note: CLI-581 or PGI-580?

Canon Pixma printers that use the CLI-581XL often also work with a separate PGI-580 cartridge for photo printing or a different black ink. The CLI-581XL has the reference number 2052C001. Keep this number so that when you reorder, you can be sure to choose the correct variant and not accidentally buy a different ink type or capacity.
