When do you need a very soft drawing pencil?
The STAEDTLER Mars Lumograph pencil with degree of hardness 8B has been specially developed for artists and illustrators who want to create deep, dark lines and intense shadows. You use this type of pencil for artistic work where you need rich black tones, such as portraits, landscape drawings or dramatic sketches.

Why the 8B degree of hardness is the right choice
The 8B degree of hardness is one of the softest pencils available, which means you can make deep, dark strokes with minimal pressure. This pencil allows you to quickly fill large areas and create smooth transitions between different shades of grey. The soft graphite lead spreads easily across the paper.

Durable construction for intensive use
The core is glued throughout the wood, which makes this pencil particularly resistant to breakage despite the soft 8B hardness. This is essential, as soft pencils are normally more vulnerable to breaking. The special bond between lead and wood means you are less troubled by breaking points, even with intensive use and firm pressure.

Practical benefits of the hexagonal shape
The hexagonal shape with blue lacquer prevents the pencil from rolling off your drawing table while you work. This is especially handy during longer drawing sessions when you regularly switch between pencils. The 2.0 mm lead diameter offers a good balance between line width and lifespan, so you can create both fine details and broad strokes.
