When should you choose a 9B pencil?
The STAEDTLER Mars Lumograph 9B pencil is designed for artistic applications where you need extremely soft, dark strokes. With its 9B degree of hardness, this pencil produces deep, rich black lines that are perfect for shading, artistic sketches and creating strong contrasts in your drawings.

Why this 2.0 mm thick version?
The 2.0 mm thick graphite lead gives you more material to work with than standard thin pencils. This means you can colour larger areas and make broader strokes without having to press constantly. For artists working on large-scale sketches or expressive drawings, this thickness is ideal.

Strong lead that doesn't break easily
Thanks to the core-bonded construction of the graphite lead, this pencil is particularly break-resistant. Although 9B is a very soft degree of hardness that is normally prone to breaking, this special bonding ensures the lead sits firmly in the wood and is less likely to wear down during intensive use.

Practical benefits of the hexagonal shape
The hexagonal shape with blue lacquer prevents the pencil from rolling off your drawing table. This is especially handy during long drawing sessions when you are using several pencils. The ergonomic grip sits comfortably in your hand and gives you more control over your lines than round pencils.
